As some of you may know Quentin has embarked on a bike ride across Britain - starting at John O' Groats this morning and finishing (we hope!) at Lands End on Sunday 20th June – some 1000 odd miles and 72k foot of climb - a desperate attempt to lose weight, fight off old age and calm down his mid life crisis (and possibly avoid the start of the world cup, not to mention childcare!)

Needless to say any money he can raise in the process is a benefit so begging cap in hand...
He is a Trustee of a charity called Access Sport (www.accesssport.co.uk) which helps take kids off the streets through funding community sports clubs so that is one cause we'd like you to help and the other is a charity called Woodland Trust (www.woodlandtrust.org.uk ) which he has selected to remember 2 very good friends of ours who died last year, before their time, and thought it would be nice to have some permanent reminders of their lives out there in the countryside.
So the choice is yours, either are great causes and you can get some sense of perverse pleasure thinking about the damage to his backside that the whole event is going to cause...

Thanks a lot for your support.

Day 5 - Ullswater to Manchester - The wheels are falling off...

8.15 am and already at the top of Kirkstone Pass - the start of another 115 miles. A pass at the start of the day has had it toll today and boys really feeling the pain.
"Suffering this morning - pass out of Ullswater deleted energy banks this is first pit stop, hot, sweaty and tired - 90m to go!"

To add to this the wheels are literally falling off - Q's back wheel lost 2 spokes last night which made descending peaks at 45 miles an hour 'interesting' . By this a.m. it was completely broken. Cracknell came to the rescue with a temporary replacement (so not sure what he is using) but it isn't smooth. Halfords trying now to get replacement wheel for Q at the next Base camp.

Algy's developed a case of cycler's trots requiring a stop off at the local chemist and there's a lovely bout of gastric 'something horrible' working its way around.

It's getting tense....
